Meet Our 2019 Summer Interns

Agency

Read Time: 3 Min

Summer is flying by, especially for the AOR interns who have been hard at work on some top-notch projects. This summer we have two talented interns on the account and design teams – Bruno Tapia Garcia and Mikah Fitzgerald.

They have jumped in on several projects for some of our exciting clients including Census 2020, Dairy Block, Cottonwood Institute, Granby Ranch, and of course AOR’s annual client party. Their biggest responsibility has been developing a brand identity and new name for the Colorado Poverty Law Project. (We’re excited to reveal more info about the project later this summer!)

So let’s meet these hard-working interns who have managed to crank out some quality work and give the office dogs lots of love in the few weeks they’ve been with us.

What is your hometown? Aurora, Colorado

What is something you’re really good at that doesn’t have to do with work? Trivia

What previous projects, industries, and roles did you have before AOR? I have been a resident advisor and treadmill repairman and worked in construction and urology clinic marketing.

What led you to this career? My senior year in high school I got a job doing social media and outreach for a non-profit in Aurora. Over the years I have learned that my two favorite things are connecting with people and creative problem-solving. Advertising is perfect because I get to do those two things within a variety of fields and no two projects are exactly the same.

What career or job would you have if you didn’t work in this industry? I would be a history teacher.

What is your dream project? A strategic advertising campaign for San Pellegrino mineral water.

What’s the most unpopular opinion you hold? Oreos should get rid of the cream in the middle.

Where would we most likely find you on the weekend? Roller skating at the park or napping.

What is your hometown? Des Moines, Iowa

What made you move to Colorado? The mountains and outdoor lifestyle, design and career-related opportunities, the mild weather, and to simply get out of my comfort zone and experience something new since I’ve never lived anywhere other than Iowa before a few weeks ago.

What is something you’re really good at that doesn’t have to do with work? I enjoy photography but that’s still pretty work-related… I also like to longboard, but I wouldn’t say I am “really” good at it.

What previous projects, industries, and roles did you have before AOR? I used to be a city bus driver in college. Before that, I worked in a grocery store.

What led you to this career? I have been interested in art my whole life and design allow me to get paid to make art for other people.

What career or job would you have if you didn’t work in this industry? I would probably be a pilot or a botanist.

What’s the most unpopular opinion you hold? I love pineapple on pizza, fight me.

What’s your favorite snack? Fruit roll-ups all day err’ day.

Our Internship Program

The AOR Internship Program—now in its fully-fledged third season—hires two summer interns to work alongside our team for ten weeks. This isn’t a fluffy internship. Our interns are full-time employees who get paid living wages and work with real clients on real assignments as a real AORian.

How do they get the gig? Applicants had to submit a resume, cover letter, portfolio (design internship), sample creative brief (account internship), introduce themselves to AOR via social media, and then, of course, wow our team through an interview.

See our recent work here. And don’t hesitate to reach out.
